North American International Auto Show Names 16 Poster Contest Winners from Over 800 Entries

Winning Entries to be Featured at 2018 NAIAS

DETROIT, Dec. 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) announced today the winners of the 30th annual poster contest – a creative competition that drew 825 entries from 68 schools. Open to Michigan students in grades 10 through 12, the contest is designed to give young artists the chance to be part of one of the premier auto shows in the world while earning award monies. 

Sophie Markus, a 12th grade student at Novi High School, was awarded the grand prize of the Chairman’s Award of $1,000. Markus’ entry was also recognized as Designer’s Best of Show – Digital.

Anthony Kennedy, a 12th grade student at William D. Ford Career Technical Center, was presented with the Vice Chairman's Award of $1,000.

Markus' and Kennedy's winning posters will be featured in the official NAIAS program, available to all auto show attendees. In addition, all winning entries will be posted on the NAIAS website and displayed during the NAIAS Public Show, Jan. 20-28.

"The creativity exhibited by all of the students is inspiring and gives us a glimpse of the next-generation's talents that await our industry," said Ryan LaFontaine, 2018 NAIAS Chairman. "When you look at these young people's work, you can see endless sparks of imagination that may someday find their way into the automotive design community."

In addition to the Chairman's and Vice Chairman's Awards, winners were selected in the following categories and presented cash prizes. 

Winner who received a $1,000 prize:

  • State Farm Award – Jack Lindner, Stoney Creek High School

Winners who received a $500 prize:

  • Designer's Best of Show – Traditional: Olivia Plochocki, Oakland Schools Technical Campus Northwest
  • 1st Place, 12th Grade Award: Adam Weinkauf, Grosse Pointe North High School
  • 1st Place, 11th Grade Award: Marie Huber, Novi High School
  • 1st Place, 10th Grade Award: Regan Lee, Bloomfield Hills High School

Winners who received a $250 prize:

  • Best Theme Award: Sean Peacock, Divine Child High School
  • Best Use of Color Award: Nathan Adermatt, William D. Ford Career Technical Center
  • Most Creative Award: Joanne Kwon, Novi High School
  • 2nd Place, 12th Grade Award: Maxie Masters, Arts Academy in the Woods
  • 2nd Place, 11th Grade Award: Andrew Sosa, William D. Ford Career Technical Center
  • 2nd Place, 10th Grade Award: Tlaloc Flores, Center Line High School

Winners who received a $100 prize:

  • 3rd Place, 12th Grade Award: Alan Knapp, William D. Ford Career Technical Center
  • 3rd Place, 11th Grade Award: Gage Pierce, Oakland Schools Technical Campus Southwest
  • 3rd Place, 10th Grade Award: Alissa Nault, Center Line High School

The posters were reviewed and judged by the 2018 NAIAS Chairmen, a General Motors automotive designer, a College for Creative Studies instructor and State Farm Insurance representatives.
